Sandy's Podchatter #10 - (5 June 2006)

I'm reading an old short story of mine, called "With the Godmothers' Best Wishes". It's about how things aren't always what they seem to be.

Music:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sonate in C, KV 545
"Greensleeves" (tin whistle)

Sandy's Podchatter #9 - The Midnight Episode (13 May 2006)

It's getting stranger with each episode ... *g* I've recorded this sometime in the middle of the night (which explains some of the strangeness of this episode). I'm talking a bit about the preparations for my reading on 19 May, yet the largest part of this episode is about another one of my favourite authors: Rosemary Sutcliff.

Music:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sonate in C, KV 545
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Rondo, KV 564

Sandy's Podchatter #8 (6 May 2006)

After having spent a whole day reading BEOWULF, I'm talking a bit about the meaning of the name "Beowulf" and let my cat purr into the microphone. *g* The larger part of this episode, however, deals with the Holland House Circle: you'll learn a bit more about the people you've met at the HOlland-House dinner party in THE LILY BRAND. (MP3-player recorded episode)

Music:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sonate in C, KV 545

Sandy's Podchatter #7 - The Improvised Episode (4 May 2006)

I recorded this episode in my office at uni. Since this was just before my class started, I'm mostly talking about stuff to do with Old English, namely about kennings and about OE riddles (the translations of the riddles are my own).

Music:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sonate in C, KV 545

Sandy's Podchatter #6 (22 April 2006)

I'm reading an old poem of mine, "Arthur" (in honour of the new semester and my new course on medieval literature) and I'm talking about the life of Lady Holland.

Music:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sonate in C, KV 545
some tin-whistling
Johann Sebastian Bach, "Menuet" from NOTENBÜCHLEIN FÜR ANNA MAGDALENA BACH

Sandy's Podchatter #5 (8 April 2006)

Remember the strange dinner party at Holland House towards the end of THE LILY BRAND? This is the first podcast episode of a series about Holland House and the Holland House Circle. I'm also reading a poem that doesn't make any sense. :O)

Music:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sonate in C, KV 545
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Rondo (which he wrote between sometime 1762 and 64 when he was still a child!)

Sandy's Podchatter #4 (1 April 2006)

I'm reading an old short story of mine, called "Witch-in-the-Bottle": two girls find out that it's better to let sleeping dogs lie, or rather, let sleeping witches lie ... While this is a fantasy story, the setting is based on a real museum: the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford. When I stayed three weeks in Oxford in 1998, this was one of my favourite places there! The displays from the story can all be found in the Pitt Rivers Museum - and Geordie probably still sleeps in one of the drawers there. :O)

Music:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sonate in C, KV 545
Domenico Scarlatti, KATZENFUGE

Sandy's Podchatter #3 (25 March 2006)

I'm talking about the first antique books I ever bought and about fore-edge painting. I'm also reading three old poems of mine: "Childhood", "Silence", and "Dream".

Music:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sonate in C, KV 545
Robert Schumann's "Schnitter-Liedchen" from ALBUM FÜR DIE JUGEND

Sandy's Podchatter #2 (12 March 2006)

I'm reading my favourite winter haiku, and while talking about HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE and other Studio Ghibli Films, I'm revealing how WHISPER OF THE HEART influenced my next novel, THE CASTLE OF WOLFENBACH. At the very end of this episode you can enjoy an old recording of my play A FAIRY TALE BURLESQUE, the story of what happens when a little meets a wolf and bangs her basket onto his head.

Music:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sonate in C, KV 545
Johann Sebastian Bach, "Menuet" from NOTENBÜCHLEIN FÜR ANNA MAGDALENA BACH

Sandy's Podchatter #1 (4 March 2006)

I'm talking about settings in THE LILY BRAND and about my most favourite author, Dorothy Dunnett. At the end, I'm reading a spring poem, "Daisy" (which proved to be a bit premature ...)

Music:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sonate in C, KV 545
Robert Schumann, "Wilder Reiter" from ALBUM FÜR DIE JUGEND
