Castle of Wolfenbach

I used two different castles when I created Castle of Wolfenbach: the general layout is modelled on the Kastelburg, one of the castles on the hills overshadowing Waldkirch (see Kirchwalden). As a child I adored this castle and I loved going for a walk and visiting its ruins. Here's a very nice picture of the Kastelburg (taken by Thomas Maier, from Wikipedia Commons):

The inside as well as the courtyard of Wolfenbach, by contrast, are modelled on Burg Eltz. In the past, three branches of one family used to live in the castle, and they divided it into three different houses. Over the time, each family added bits and pieces to their house, which makes for the patchwork look of the courtyard. Here are some pictures:

Cissy passed a second bastion and finally stepped through a small gate
into the courtyard of the upper castle. Her mood immediately lightened.
Rows and rows of the by now familiar light brown stone met her eyes.

Burg Eltz

White-washed walls and half-timbered third and fourth stories;
and windows, both large and small, all with dark red shutters.

Even though the color dripped off, they gave the courtyard a cheerful appearance.
Her mouth opened in wonder, Cissy turned around and around.
